Discover more about Milliken’s curious minds and inspired solutions at Milliken.com and on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.   Position Summary: The Environmental Technician position is responsible for assisting in daily activities to ensure proper management of waste, stormwater, wastewater, air emissions, and industrial hygiene practices as well as supporting the achievement of footprint reduction goals. The Environmental Technician reports to the Environmental Manager over Wastewater Treatment. This position is located at the Dewey Chemical Manufacturing Plant in Inman, SC which operates 24-hour, 7-days per week. Normal work hours for this position are rotating 12-hour shifts, this position will be required to be on-call when environmental support is needed by the manufacturing team.  

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Computer skills sufficient to enter information into databases and spreadsheets, manipulate data and perform calculations using excel, and type up reports; use email; open, save, close, andcreate files; and navigate through different computer programs and control systems.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to create and review written procedures.
  • Math skills including algebra; calculations of area, volume, and concentrations; unit conversations; and problem solving.
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and within time constraints.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities.
  • A positive attitude.
  • Ability to be flexible, learn new things, and adapt to change; ability to learn things independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Equipment and process trouble shooting.
  • US driver’s license
  • WWT license – additional training required if not a B license

Nice To Haves

  • Biological Wastewater Operator License.
  • Previous RCRA (waste) experience.
  • Previous mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Previous environmental experience in any of the following areas: RC 14001, Title V, SARA, RCRA, NPDES, asbestos and lead.
  • Experience with MS Access computer program.
  • Basic understanding of pumps, mixers, pH, sampling techniques, chemical feed systems, and lab equipment.
  • 2- or 4- year college degree in chemistry, environmental, or other related fields.
  • Forklift operator license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily meter readings and recordkeeping
  • Environmental sampling and testing as required by the permit and company procedures
  • Operating a wastewater treatment plant and all corresponding waste treatment equipment
  • Daily management and inspection of waste containers
  • Daily inspection of storage tank dikes
  • Perform routine opacity and leak detection (LDAR) testing as required by the Title V air permit
  • Daily maintenance
  • Environmental compliance
  • Housekeeping.
  • HAZWOPER Trained/Certified
