About The Position

Are you a safety-conscious professional with a background in hazardous waste management? Airbus Helicopters, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Specialist to join our team in Grand Prairie. This is a vital, short-term, part-time role (16–24 hours per M-F week) designed to support our Sr. Environmental Manager in maintaining world-class sustainability and safety standards. If you are Hazwoper 40/Forklift certified and thrive in an active, industrial environment, we want to hear from you. This position is a temporary (Contract) assignment expected to last 90-120 days. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America . Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Prior experience in an industrial work setting handling hazardous waste.
  • Hazwoper 40 Certified
  • Forklift operator
  • Eligible for employment in the US
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings several times a week.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms on a daily basis.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications daily.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts on a daily basis.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools on a daily basis.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer on a daily basis.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor on a daily basis.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces on a daily basis.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Waste Management & Equipment Operations: 50 % Hazardous & Non-Hazardous Waste Handling: Manage the collection, labeling, and transfer of various waste streams, including used oil, NDI/soda blast waste, and Alodine/Alumiprep tank contents.
  • System Maintenance: Ensure continuous operation of site systems by changing filters for paint booths and the sanding water system, and servicing the rinse water recycle system.
  • Onsite Processing: Operate the evaporator for non-hazardous wastewater and treat Alodine rinse water to meet Cr level standards (< 5 mg/l) before processing.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor and reorder drum and tote inventories in the waste cage while ensuring all storage containers are properly dated and labeled.
  • Compliance, Inspections & Facility Support: 35% Regular Auditing: Perform daily and weekly compliance inspections of waste accumulation areas to ensure no leaks exist and that all materials are stored in proper locations.
  • Shop Floor Support: Provide essential supplies to production areas, including red can bag liners, empty drums, and totes for chemical drainage.
  • Specialized Disposal: Manage the safe storage of fluorescent bulbs in closed, labeled boxes and monitor VDI Room wastewater levels daily to prevent overflow.
  • Project Support & Administration: 10% Project Assistance: Contribute to specific environmental milestones, such as the Paint Booth/Mixing Room Cleaning project, as directed by the Sr. Environmental Manager.
  • Reporting: Assist with required environmental reporting and documentation associated with RCRA and Hazwoper standards.
  • Additional Responsibilities: 5% Other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Manager Environmental
