About The Position

Outokumpu Stainless Steel is looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Calvert, North Mobile County, Alabama.   Objective: The Environmental Specialist will assist in maintaining the entire plant site in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations with a prioritization of safety, compliance, quality, profit, communication, development, and presentation. This position will also assist in driving sustainability with respect to environmental topics.   Outokumpu is the global leader in sustainable stainless steel. The Americas is headquartered in Calvert, Mobile County, Alabama; home to one of the most technically advanced integrated stainless-steel mill in the United States. The Americas’ footprint also expands to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, which is the only stainless steel cold rolling mill plus service center in the country. Additionally, Outokumpu business area Americas has a commercial office in Brazil.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred
  • >3 years of full-time experience developing and implementing programs related to environmental compliance and hazardous materials management issues
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, interpretations, and health and safety programs
  • Understanding of environmental concerns for manufacturing field
  • General knowledge of the theory and principles of environmental protection and control.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations related to waste management and other environmental concerns

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a culture of safety for but not limited to: Self, Peers and Contractors utilized on a daily basis and for shutdowns/projects/remediation
  • Develop & maintain compliance associated with all laws including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental
  • Develop and maintain high levels of quality associated with but not limited to: Safety and environmental record retention, Customer service, Sampled discharged water to the environment, Sustainability with respect to Environmental topics
  • Develop and maintain a focus on profit including but not limited to: Costs associated with environmental compliance, Costs associated with service agreements, Consumable costs, Tools, training, and software costs, Project costs and return on investment analysis, Fines associated with not being in compliance
  • Develop and maintain the following communications including but not limited to:  verbal, video conference; phone, email, text, other written notes
  • Develop and maintain presentation including but not limited to: Presentation of self and department teammates, Presentation of equipment and systems including housekeeping, organization, and preservation (such as painting)
  • Other duties as needed.
