The City of Palo Alto's Office of Sustainability is seeking an Environmental Specialist to play a pivotal role in achieving the city's environmental goals as outlined in the Sustainability Climate Action Plan. This position is integral to the Office of Sustainability, focusing on community engagement, data collection, and progress reporting. The Environmental Specialist will lead the development and execution of outreach strategies, stakeholder engagement initiatives, and educational materials that promote sustainability and climate action. This includes creating content for print, electronic, and social media platforms to effectively communicate the city's sustainability efforts to the community. In addition to outreach, the Environmental Specialist will collaborate with various city departments to ensure consistent messaging and professional communication regarding sustainability initiatives. The role involves collecting and analyzing data to track progress on the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, as well as assisting in the development of policies, procedures, and processes that align with the city's environmental objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for sustainability, a foundational understanding of climate change concepts, and the ability to influence behavior change through community-based social marketing. The position requires excellent customer service skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, and experience in website management. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is preferred but not mandatory. The Environmental Specialist will also be responsible for preparing reports and presentations, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
