About The Position

The Environmental Specialist III, 37020734, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s (DEAR) Watershed Services Program (WSP), Watershed Information Network (WIN) Section in Tallahassee and is responsible for coordinating with data provider organizations conducting monitoring in assigned areas of the state to facilitate loading of data to the WIN data repository. The position will provide technical support and training for data submission to WIN, which will aid in the management and evaluation of monitoring data from the State’s water resources, and will support the data management needs of DEAR.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of relational database structure and management concepts.
  • Knowledge of and ability to proficiently use MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
  • Ability to train database users effectively and answer questions clearly either via presentations or one-on-one.
  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and solve problems effectively using critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete assignments on time.
  • At least 6 years of verifiable related experience in engineering, engineering sciences, chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, environmental policy, computer science, or public health. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Occasional overnight travel

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and ability to proficiently use Oracle, SQL, and/or PLSQL.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of the Watershed Information Network (WIN) Database.
  • Knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical data related to environmental water quality.
