About The Position

KLJ is seeking a motivated Environmental Specialist II to help support environmental investigation and remediation projects for both public and private sectors. In this role, you will conduct a variety of field and office related tasks under the direction of senior environmental staff members.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in geology, engineering or an environmental-related field
  • Two to six years of relevant post education professional experience that includes investigation and remediation work with a minimum of one year conducting environmental construction monitoring or Response Action Plan/Construction Contingent Plan implementation activities
  • Familiar with field and sample collection methods and procedures
  • Previous experience in soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and asbestos sampling
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multitask and work well in a team environment.
  • Interest in environmental investigation and remediation and a willingness to learn
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint)
  • Must ensure compliance with KLJ safety and quality standards
  • Willingness to travel on occasions and work flexible hours as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience using GPS units and ArcGIS software
  • Previous experience preparing investigation and remediation proposals and technical reports
  • Knowledge and experience with Minnesota environmental regulations including MPCA, MDH, and MnDOT guidance documents
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • Minnesota Asbestos Inspector certification
  • Minnesota Asbestos Supervisor certification
  • P.G., P.E. in Minnesota and/or CHMM or ability to obtain

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for due diligence purposes
  • Support large scale construction monitoring/site cleanup projects for regulatory compliance
  • Perform asbestos and regulated waste surveys for bridges and residential, commercial, or industrial properties
  • Collect soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and other media during environmental investigation and cleanup activities
  • Evaluate and interpret field results and analytical data
  • Provide environmental oversight and documentation of proper waste/media management and disposal activities
  • Complete Limited Site Investigations and Remedial Investigations for potential petroleum releases
  • Prepare technical reports and other deliverables
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication to interact with clients, contractors, and team members on a regular basis
  • Contribute to meetings with project stakeholders or clients
  • Understand federal, state, and local environmental regulatory policies and monitor changes to environmental laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Understand and follow scope of services, project schedules and budgets
  • Conduct and lead field investigations and remediation projects
  • Accurately document environmental activities and incorporate pertinent information into draft reports, permits, and other deliverables
