About The Position

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Environmental Specialist II to work within the Division of Aquaculture. This position involves conducting compliance inspections at aquaculture facilities, reviewing applications for Aquaculture Certificates of Registration, and serving as an advisor to applicants regarding the certification process. The role also includes assisting with permitting difficulties and promoting industry development as outlined in the State Aquaculture Plan. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with best management practices and other regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • Six (6) months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
  • One (1) year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; agriculture; or engineering.
  • Possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct compliance inspections at aquaculture facilities to determine compliance with best management practices.
  • Audit compliance with all provisions of the certification program.
  • Review Aquaculture Certificate of Registration applications and assist applicants in the certification process.
  • Conduct initial site inspections and recommend issuance or denial of certificates.
  • Serve as an ombudsman to the aquaculture industry assisting with permitting difficulties.
  • Work with aquaculture business development efforts as outlined in the State Aquaculture Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
