About The Position

Conduct inspections and re-inspections of establishments assigned to the Facilities Section of Environmental Health to ensure compliance with state and local public health rules and regulations. The programs of the Facilities Section include educational institutions, food preparation and storage, group care facilities, foster homes, swimming pools and spas.  Submit reports and maintain records of programs as required.  Review records periodically to determine progress, status of permits and overall condition of facility. Provide consultation to management of facilities and to the public as needed to disseminate information regarding violations, corrective actions, and rules and procedures regulating respective program operations.   Acts as the back-up to the food coordinator and office specialist for matters pertaining to the food program. Assists in training and consulting staff and the public when necessary. Keeps up with and propagates code changes, assists in problematic complaint and outbreak investigations as well as legal actions. Assists with coordinating activities to ensure compliance with inspection frequency and timeliness of inspection requests of the food programs.     Conduct complaint investigations in assigned programs to ascertain validity and to achieve abatement of nuisances.  Conduct follow-up investigations and initiate legal action when necessary.     Assist in the investigation of suspected food borne and waterborne illnesses as needed or assigned.   Complete and return all paperwork pertaining to job duties legibly and in proper order.  This would include timely submittal of timesheets, mileage, and EARS.   This position is responsible for improving environmental health performance by completing their assigned community Environmental Health expectations. Performs all other duties as required or assigned. Maintains confidentiality and security of records as specified by departmental regulations and laws.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND a total of at least 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework in the natural sciences.
  • Must provide official sealed transcripts.
  • Physically able to use fine motor skills, bend, kneel, lift, walk long distances AND carry up to 40 pounds daily.
  • Physically able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Access to personal transportation in lieu of a county vehicle.
  • Currently have a valid FL driver’s license OR a valid driver’s license from another state.
  • Incumbent will need to obtain food protection and pool operator certifications within six months of hire.
  • Willing to occasionally perform site evaluations and inspections outside of normal working hours.
