About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. This role involves demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff. The technician may be responsible for cleaning various locations within the facility and will need to wear proper protective equipment. They are also expected to keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy, and may assist in laundry areas. Depending on location and program availability, the technician may use technology applications like pagers.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Ability to be on their feet for the majority of their shift.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience.
  • Ability to use computer and prior cleaning experience.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment; ability to apply this to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff.
  • Cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas so that health standards are met.
  • Wearing the proper protective equipment following the appropriate guidelines.
  • Keeping storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in the laundry areas as appropriate.
