About The Position

Maintains a clean and pleasant environment for the patients/residents at CHS. Duties include cleaning patient/residents’ rooms, baths, laboratories, facility offices, halls, and other areas of the health system by performing a variety of cleaning duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate ratio and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Uses proper cleaning products and procedures in order to effectively clean and disinfect patient/resident rooms, clinical areas, offices and all other health system areas.
  • Wash beds and mattresses, and remake beds after dismissal of patient/resident and as needed.
  • On a daily basis a large quantity of linens is utilized--such as bedding, gowns and scrubs. Environmental Services are responsible for gathering, washing, ironing, folding, inspecting, and mending all of the linens used at their location.
  • Keep utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition.
  • Disinfect and sterilize equipment and supplies.
  • Sweep, dust, mop, wet mop, wax, and polish floors.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
  • Dust furniture and equipment.
  • Polish metalwork.
  • Wash walls, ceiling, and woodwork.
  • Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Clean bath/shower and toilets in patient/resident rooms and all other health system restrooms.
  • Clean entrance and exit areas; vacuum / clean entrance mats, pick up trash and emptying trash containers.
  • Clean dining room areas after each meal.
  • Empty wastebaskets, transports trash and waste to the designated location based on content.
  • Perform laundry duties as assigned.
  • Utilize the proper equipment and safety devices when moving furniture, supplies, etc.
  • Use proper protective clothing/devices when handling/disposing of infectious materials including materials exposed to blood or other body fluids.
  • Assist in the evacuation and/or movement of patients/residents as needed.
  • Attend in-service training programs or meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient/residents, families, staff, and the health system.
  • Develop and maintain a professional demeanor and rapport with patients/residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in fire, safety, and disaster preparedness drills.
  • Be able to work in a team setting in order to accomplish the daily required tasks of the EVS department.
  • Comply with the employee personnel policies, department policies and the CHS Code of Conduct.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
