Job Summary The Environmental Service Worker focuses on Infection Control and Prevention by providing proper cleaning and sanitation throughout the hospital and assigned site campuses Reports to: Supervisor, Environmental Services Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Provide housekeeping services in patient rooms, both occupied and unoccupied, and assigned areas within the hospital and/or site campuses; Cleaning may require exposure to blood, blood borne pathogens, and bodily fluids (ie.blood, urine, vomit, etc..) • Provide housekeeping services in public areas, which includes but not limited to: vacuuming, cleaning baseboards, vents, fans, and elevators • Clean and disinfect isolation rooms such as Tuberculosis (TB), C-Diff, and COVID-19, bathrooms, collecting and disposing of regular waste (trash), spot cleaning carpets, furniture, fixtures, washing windows/walls, dusting furniture, equipment, woodwork, windowsills, countertops, etc • Exchange full sharp boxes for empty sharp boxes • Deliver clean linen exchange carts to appropriate storage areas, maintain utility rooms in an orderly fashion • All other assigned duties related to Environmental Services Education and Experience • High School Diploma or GED • 1 year housekeeping, linen, or other environmental service experience, preferably in a hospital setting • Demonstrate basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and operating equipment after successful completion of 90 day training Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations N/A Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of proper handling and disposing of medical infectious waste and soiled linen • Ability to properly clean and disinfect areas of blood, bodily fluids, and other pathogens • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position will have interaction with patients, their families, and hospital medical staff Physical Capabilities Requires wear or personal protective equipment (PPE); Ability to lift/move various types of equipment, supplies/chemicals, and furniture of light/medium weight. Work requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting and stretching. Environmental/Working Conditions This position is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental changes that may include varying temperatures.
