About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the facilities and patient care areas. Customer service is emphasized using the AIDET technique. The Environmental Services Technician is to maintain prescribed standards of cleanliness for assigned areas using germicidal solutions. Follows prescribed procedures and posted work schedules. Procedures may include utilizing chemicals and cleaning agents to maintain prescribed standards of cleanliness. Performs general cleaning consisting of floor cleaning, emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms including showers, wiping down walls, and cleaning windows. May also operate floor equipment to strip, scrub, and refinish floors, shampoo carpets, and clean baseboards.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: None.
  • Preferred education: High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum work experience: None.
  • Preferred work experience: Housekeeping experience in a health care setting.
  • Minimum licenses & certifications: None.
  • Preferred licenses & certifications: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician, Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician, through Association for the Healthcare Environmental or other relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain facilities and patient care areas.
  • Emphasize customer service using the AIDET technique.
  • Maintain prescribed standards of cleanliness for assigned areas using germicidal solutions.
  • Follow prescribed procedures and posted work schedules.
  • Utilize chemicals and cleaning agents to maintain cleanliness.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks including floor cleaning, emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms, wiping down walls, and cleaning windows.
  • Operate floor equipment to strip, scrub, and refinish floors, shampoo carpets, and clean baseboards.
  • Gather appropriate cleaning supplies and stock cleaning cart and supply closet.
  • Recognize Infection Prevention precautions signage and explain meaning.
  • Don and doff appropriate PPE in the proper sequence.
  • Identify and apply disinfectant to various surfaces for effective pathogen kill.
  • Follow a defined cleaning process and adhere to safety protocols around waste handling, transport, and disposal.
  • Follow duty assignments as assigned from immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in floor care, linen distribution, and procedural areas.
  • Utilize a mobile device for communication and completing duty assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
