About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, and using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The technician will demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients and facility staff. Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment and keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy. They will have access to pagers and other technology that they will be responsible for using appropriately. Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The position requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits. The technician will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to certain levels of noise with the equipment in operation. Work hours will vary depending on patient needs, including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • No formal education is required.
  • Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements.
  • Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability to follow cleaning policies and procedures.
