The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.

Requirements

• No formal education is required.
• Must fulfill the annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility.
• Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in various departments/areas of the facility.
• Ability to follow the cleaning policy and procedure for each department while using cleaning/sanitation chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
• Provide a clean and sterile environment for patients and facility staff.
• Clean patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Wear the proper protective equipment following the appropriate guidelines.
• Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
• Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate.
• Use Sanford technology applications as needed.
• Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
