About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician- Throughput performs intermediate environmental services tasks in a healthcare setting with a high priority on customer service, infection prevention, and patient throughput. Focuses on discharge room cleaning to ensure timely bed availability and supports operational flow. Demonstrates proficiency in advanced healthcare cleaning procedures and maintains high standards of safety, cleanliness, and confidentiality. Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
  • One (1) year of related experience in environmental services, housekeeping, or a similar role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with knowledge of bed turnover or throughput processes.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning and disinfection of patient discharge rooms and surrounding areas, ensuring timely readiness for incoming admissions.
  • Prioritizes and responds to room turnover requests in collaboration with nursing, bed management, and environmental services leadership.
  • Uses assigned tools and products correctly and efficiently to meet hospital cleaning and infection control standards.
  • Follows all infection control protocols, including PPE and isolation procedures, when working in patient care and procedural environments.
  • Operates housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, carts, and floor scrubbers, safely and effectively.
  • Removes soiled linens and re-makes beds according to department protocols.
  • Handles soiled linen, regular waste, and medical waste following established safety guidelines.
  • Maintains equipment and carts in clean, stocked, and ready condition throughout the shift.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, staff, and visitors, using appropriate scripting and customer service etiquette.
  • May be assigned to train or mentor environmental services technician staff under the direction of leadership.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
