JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for cleaning the Surgery Department after each case, terminally cleaning the operating rooms, central sterile, staff lounge, staff locker rooms, staff offices, and common areas in the Surgical Department. The Environmental Services Department is responsible for using the appropriate chemicals within standard procedures of OSS. Includes daily floor maintenance of hard surface floors. Required to process all general and medical waste for the hospital using the prescribed method per policy

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Up to two years of previous experience in Environmental Services in the healthcare industry preferred.
  • Must have a friendly cooperative attitude toward patients, visitors, and all OSS Health staff.
  • Must possess effective verbal communication, reading, basic math and writing skills.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions and understand English language.
  • Knowledgeable in the correct use of chemicals, dilution of chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment.
  • When applicable, must also know proper use and procedures to operate the waste compactor and cardboard balers.
  • Basic knowledge of the regulatory requirements of handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Basic knowledge of the regulatory requirement for the treatment and disposal of medical waste.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Must be physically able to perform strenuous work (including walking, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, and lifting).

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the code of ethics at all times to include regard for patient confidentiality.
  • Distributes needed replacement supplies.
  • Performs cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods.
  • High Dusts all surfaces that collect dust.
  • Sanitizes and polishes fixtures and restocks supplies in bathrooms.
  • Empties, damp wipes and relines all trash receptacles.
  • Dry mops, spot mops and wet mops floors.
  • Cleans corners and baseboards.
  • Buffs floors with buffer or burnishes with Burnisher.
  • Scrubs floors with automatic floor scrubber.
  • Terminally cleans all operating rooms and pain procedure rooms at the end of each day.
  • Utilizes the Xenex robot in each room for the recommended time.
  • Transports waste (general, infectious, hazardous, and recyclable) from utility rooms and other collection points to designated areas.
  • Compacts waste when applicable certain wastes will be steam sterilized, grinded/shredded, or placed in containers for storage until appropriate waste disposal vendor picks up.
  • Observes and reports the need to repair equipment, furniture, and building fixtures.
  • Responds to emergency calls or codes and follows established procedures.
  • Moves furniture and sets up meeting rooms.
  • Assists in cleaning of emergency spills/floods that are observed or requested.
  • Responsible for compliance with organizational integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.
  • Proactively communicates with all staff members in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participates in and coordinates with organizational process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices that are used to identify safety management issues.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures, which may include wearing of personal protective equipment.
  • Moves patients as needed under the direct supervision of OR Nursing staff, after being properly trained by OR Nursing Manager.
  • Terminally clean all operating rooms at the end of each day.
  • Terminally clean all pain procedure rooms at the end of each day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
