About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, and using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The technician will demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff. Responsibilities include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The position requires wearing proper protective equipment and keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy. Environmental Services Technicians will have access to pagers and other technology that they will be responsible for using appropriately. Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits is required. This position will require the individual to be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may involve exposure to noise from equipment operation. Work hours will vary depending on patient/resident needs, including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

  • Use technology applications as needed.
  • Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
