Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: Environmental Services Aide Job Code: 350 Hours : 0700-1530 FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week) Weekend Schedule: Rotating Holiday Schedule: Rotating Call Schedule: N/A FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Housekeeping Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for cleanliness and infection control in designated areas assigned by Manager/Lead. Including: In-patient, out-patient areas and common areas in all the department throughout the facility. Responsibility including, but not limited to dusting, disinfecting, sweeping and mopping, vacuuming, emptying waste baskets and collecting linen. Laundry duties include different task with dirty and clean linen. Essential Functions: Keep areas free of dust and building up debris. General cleaning and disinfecting per policies and procedures of all assigned areas (patients and non-patient areas) per shift. Filling the paper work of completed task, and explaining why the tasks were not completed (if applied). Job consists of, but not limited to the following duties: cleaning bathrooms, cleaning sinks in the rooms, dusting, disinfecting and cleaning multiple surfaces in the areas, polishing furnishings, sweeping and mopping the floors, vacuuming carpet. Keeping an eye on the paper supply, soaps / disinfectants, trash bags and other cleaning supplies and refurbishing them on as needed basis. Taking care of unscheduled housekeeping emergencies (spills as example). Some other equipment might be used: floor scrubber, carpet shampooer, floor power wash, buffer, etc. Special training required for those items. Laundry assignment might include collecting / delivering linen, sorting, washing, drying and folding. Evaluating and monitoring the interior of the hospital, and other areas in a facility and report items that needing either a repair or an attention (safety concern for example) to the appropriate department. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: The Environmental Services Department is responsible for meeting the needs of its customers, which include all patient care areas (Med-Surg, ER, OR, outpatient and diagnostic services, doctor’s offices, etc.), by providing them with a clean, sanitary and aesthetically pleasing environment while following basic established safety, cleaning and infection control practices. The scope of service includes providing suitable linen in sufficient quantities, while identifying and anticipating customers’ future needs. Environmental Services is responsible for the care, repair and placement of all audio/visual equipment, set-up of meetings, and recycling (cardboard, paper, office equipment and furniture). The Department will assist in meeting the needs of all areas through revising schedules, creating items to meet unusual needs—such as curtains, cart covers, etc., and providing lost and found services. This is conducted seven days a week, 24 hours.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently, pay attention to details, multitask, and follow set procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Personnel problem-solving; interaction with other departments.
  • Requires physical stamina, as there is extensive walking, standing and reaching to clean high places.
  • Ability to work from a six-foot and 12-foot ladder.
  • Able to complete routine tasks (Working on feet 90% of day, pushing carts, etc.).
  • Able to interact with and communicate effectively with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to properly use mechanical cleaning equipment (For example, floor machines, room fogging devices.)
  • Ability to use hospital cleaning compounds (must not be allergic to these).
  • Ability to properly use quaternary disinfectants
  • Ability to use required PPE when exposed to body fluids or chemicals.
  • OSHA Category I - Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Past cleaning experience preferred.
  • Infection control knowledge preferred but not required.
