About The Position

Environmental Scientist – NEPA Program (Boise, ID) Forsgren is seeking an Environmental Scientist with 3+ years of experience to join our growing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) team in Boise, Idaho. This position will support a variety of infrastructure and environmental projects, with opportunities to contribute to environmental compliance, permitting, and field investigations across Idaho and the Mountain West. This is a mid-level position ideal for a candidate who has developed a strong technical foundation in environmental consulting and is ready to take on increasing responsibility in project delivery, coordination, and client interaction. The Environmental Scientist will work under the direction of the NEPA Program Manager while independently managing assigned tasks and supporting broader project efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Biology, Geology, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting, permitting, or compliance
  • Wetland delineation experience (USACE Technical Manual and Regional Supplements)
  • Strong technical writing and research skills
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and contribute within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with ArcGIS
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork and travel as needed
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of NEPA and environmental permitting processes
  • Experience with Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act compliance
  • Familiarity with Idaho regulations and agencies (IDEQ, IDWR)
  • Experience with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, or site remediation
  • Background working on transportation or infrastructure project

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with design teams, environmental staff, and regulatory agencies to support environmental compliance and permitting efforts
  • Prepare permit applications for state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, IDEQ, IDWR, USFS, BLM)
  • Conduct fieldwork including wetland delineations, biological surveys, and site assessments
  • Prepare technical reports, work plans, and proposals for a variety of environmental projects
  • Support project management activities, including tracking scope, schedule, and budget for assigned tasks
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies as needed to support project execution
  • Manage multiple assignments concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of Forsgren’s NEPA program
