About The Position

This is professional work performing data collection and data management functions and assisting senior project scientists in environmental restoration and environmental management projects.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, zoology, or a field directly related to natural resource management and two years professional experience in the environmental field.
  • Professional experience in an environmental field can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory-testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes. Any offer of employment for a mandatory-testing position will be contingent upon successfully passing a drug screening paid by SJRWMD.   • Skilled In: Truck, boat, and trailer operation; operation of monitoring devices including continuous monitoring sensors, data sondes, sediment sampling equipment, and a wide variety of water sampling equipment; operation of GPS.
  • Time split between the office environment and fieldwork. Endure harsh outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures for any and all activities, inclement weather, and remote locations; lift and/or move equipment; operate or learn to operate vehicles/vessels to access sites (e.g. outboard motorboats, four-wheel drive trucks, airboats, ATVs, Marsh Master).
  • Operation of boats, trucks and trailers may occur in all weather conditions; scheduling may involve tight deadlines.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing Habitat Assessments and Stream Condition Index’s according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Standard Operating Procedures and have skill in both boating and trailering.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, mentors, and performs water quality sampling preparation and fieldwork.
  • Leads, mentors, and performs biological monitoring and sampling.
  • Acts as technical lead for assigned specialized monitoring responsibilities including data entry and QA for specialprojects. Interfaceswith District FDEP sampling coordinator, partnering with ES I staff for Status site recon,samplingand other coordination.
  • Leads andassistswith special projects.
  • Performs field data entry and documentation.
  • Performs maintenance of field and related support equipment, ensures completion of maintenance logs and calibration logs.
