By joining the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Branch, Administrative Section as an Environmental Scientist II in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to perform entry level duties in the development, interpretation, and implementation of the Solid Waste financial assurance program with an emphasis on correction, accuracy, and timeliness of financial documents. Holders of the Environmental Scientist II position will complete tasks such as: Assists in the compilation of computer generated site-specific financial assurance modifications using an internal database (TEMPO 360). Reviews permits and associated letters for accuracy, consistency, and clarity. Performs financial reviews of solid waste landfill permit applications and reports to determine compliance with solid waste and other state and federal statutes and regulations. Prepares and reviews notice of deficiency, approval, and acceptance letters. Updates documents and activities in TEMPO 360. Tracks progress of submittals and updates the Work Activity Log in TEMPO 360. Assists in providing financial assurance assistance to other department staff and other governmental agencies. Develops responses to external inquiries. Attends meetings with permittees, consultants, and others. Attends public hearings as necessary. Attends relevant training courses and seminars. Performs other duties as assigned. Holders of this job will learn the following skills: Understanding an environmental financial assurance process, and the compliance requirements that are associated. The structure and framework of a regulatory system. Team leadership and Cabinet specific database management. Financial and institutional impacts and importance in environmental protection.
