About The Position
The Vertex Companies, LLC (VERTEX) is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Due Diligence group in Chicago, Illinois. This role is ideal for individuals who are proficient in conducting Phase 1 Environmental Assessments and Property Condition Assessments, and who possess strong technical writing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing these assessments in accordance with ASTM standards and preparing detailed client-facing reports that summarize findings and data. As an Environmental Scientist, you will be expected to travel nationally, with travel requirements reaching up to 100%. This frequent travel will involve visiting various project locations across the United States to conduct assessments and inspections. You will work closely with senior managers to coordinate project activities, ensuring that all milestones, budgetary limits, and deadlines are met. Additionally, you will assist in the selection and management of project staff and subcontractors, and prepare Health and Safety Plans for job sites. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, along with at least two years of professional experience in conducting ASTM Phase I assessments and Property Condition Assessments. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with CAD and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus. The role also demands physical capability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and carry field testing equipment regularly.
