About The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action; OR incumbents serve as the technical scientific expert for a bureau within the Department of Transportation. The incumbent will oversee the development and implementation of the stormwater monitoring component of the NDOT's Stormwater Management Program. Duties include developing monitoring plans and monitoring sites; performing field monitoring; assessing impacts of stormwater runoff on impaired waters; prioritizing watersheds and projects based on potential impact of the roadway on water quality; identifying appropriate stormwater treatment measures (including Low Impact Development control measures); preparing program documents and technical reports; performing hydrologic and water quality computer modeling; assessing the condition and effectiveness of temporary and permanent Best Management Practices (BMP's) and water quality treatment devices; analyzing data and trends; coordinating Stormwater projects and programs with other divisions, staff, local, State, and federal agencies, and consultants to ensure requirements, project goals, and schedules are met; reviewing reports, plans, and specifications; provide technical assistance on stormwater issues during the construction and maintenance phases of projects; performing field reviews, inspections, and data collection.
