Introduction RETTEW is seeking an Environmental Scientist 2 to join our Natural Sciences Team within the Environmental and Geotechnology Practice. This role focuses on wetland delineation, permitting, and field investigations across the Tri-State region. Responsibilities include operating company-owned vehicles and performing field-based work in active construction and utility environments. Continued compliance with RETTEW’s safety policies is required throughout employment. Position Summary The Environmental Scientist 2 supports wetland delineations, environmental investigations, and regulatory permitting efforts across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. This role partners closely with Team Leads and Project Managers to deliver high-quality technical documentation and field data that support responsible development and environmental stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, botany, or related field
  • Minimum three years of wetland delineation experience using the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and the Eastern Mountains and Piedmont, Northcentral Northeast, and Midwest Regional Supplements
  • Ability to prepare clear, detailed delineation reports and technical documents
  • Experience collecting field data using handheld GPS units
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain in all seasons
  • Willingness to travel periodically, including overnight travel

Nice To Haves

  • Clean Water Act Section 404 and 401 permitting experience in Ohio and West Virginia
  • Threatened and endangered species field survey experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct stream and wetland delineations using the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and applicable regional supplements
  • Perform environmental field investigations and data collection
  • Prepare detailed wetland delineation reports and technical documentation
  • Assist with preparation of federal, state, and local environmental permit applications, including Clean Water Act Section 404 and 401 permits
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to support multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Communicate with clients and regulatory agencies as needed
  • Support additional environmental tasks as assigned
