About The Position

RETTEW is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist with wetland delineation and permitting experience to join their Natural Sciences Team in the Environmental and Geotechnology Practice. The candidate will assist Team Leads, Project Managers, and Environmental Scientists on existing and upcoming projects primarily within the Tri-State Area. The position is located in Pittsburgh, PA, or Akron-Canton, OH, with in-office work and hybrid options available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geo-environmental, biology, or related field
  • 3 - 5 years of experience
  • Wetland delineation experience required
  • Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting experience a plus
  • Hand-held GPS experience preferred
  • Desire to learn a wide variety of disciplines
  • Periodic overnight travel
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Microsoft Office software proficient
  • CADD or GIS experience a plus
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Conduct wetland delineations and environmental investigations.
  • Collaborate with other environmental professionals.
  • Prepare reports, technical documents, and environmental permit applications for local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Interact with clients and regulators.
  • Perform moderate environmental assessments and routine technical work.
  • Prepare portions of environmental plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Assist with preparation of other environmental deliverables.
  • Perform research and field investigations, collect data and gather information or documents.
  • Develop and/or assist with tasks such as field activities including environmental sampling, data analysis, permit applications, and report writing.
  • Consult project team about regulations impacting projects; perform regulation research as needed.
  • Conduct soil, water, and air sampling and analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental impact assessments and statements.
  • Participate in site assessments and remediation projects.
  • Support the development of environmental management plans and strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and documentation.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and audits.
  • Work as part of a team and coordinate works with others.
  • Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Follow tasks through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
  • Use standard programs to complete project and administrative deliverables.
  • Receive instruction on specific objectives.
  • Receive direction on unconventional and/or complex problems and possible solutions.
  • Receive a thorough review of completed work for the application of sound professional judgment.
  • Attain mentored experience from senior technical staff and/or a licensed engineer, typically in their specialty.
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate assertiveness and cooperation in managing conflicts.
  • Interact with internal and external project team members.
  • Assist with official communication pertaining to specific assignments/meetings.
