About The Position

Responsible for conducting field monitoring efforts involving routine surface water, stormwater and wastewater monitoring, special aquatic and riparian studies, fish, mussel and benthic macroinvertebrate surveys and wastewater sampling in compliance with regulatory, project and state requirements. Additional duties include water quality sample reception and logging sample data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Requirements

  • Currently or recently enrolled in an accredited college or university with completed coursework in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or relevant disciplines and six (6) months of progressively responsible experience conducting field or environmental laboratory work (lab or field work associated with coursework is acceptable); or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents all monitoring efforts in accordance with the most current Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Surface Water Quality Monitoring Procedures, Quality Assurance Project Plan and Monitoring Plan.
  • Performs laboratory based chemical and bacteriological analyses on submitted samples according to state standards, internal quality assurance guidelines, and laboratory best practices.
  • Operates, calibrates, and performs routine maintenance on laboratory and field instrumentation.
  • Makes unbiased observations of aquatic and riparian conditions, surrounding watershed land uses, current weather conditions, impacts of human activities, and any other observations as needed.
  • Conducts all stormwater sampling procedures, calibrations, downloads, and calculations in accordance with defined and prescribed project Quality Assurance Project Plans and River Authority Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Installs, calibrates, maintains, operates, troubleshoots, and tests all department automated water quality and stormwater monitoring equipment for proper function.
  • Utilize Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system to receive and log-in samples, print labels and make minor modifications.
  • Provides laboratory front desk support as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.
