The Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, Environmental, and Plant Sciences (FWEPS) at SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech invites applications for a 10-month tenure-track position as Assistant Professor to start in August 2026. Preferred candidates will demonstrate expertise in Environmental Science disciplines and an interest in working with a diverse body of undergraduate students seeking an applied education in Natural Resource Management. Fisheries, Wildlife, and Environmental Science disciplines at SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech serve approximately 260 undergraduate students in 5 majors: (1) Bachelor of Technology (BT) in Wildlife Management, (2) Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture, (3) BT in Environmental Management, (4) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Fisheries and Wildlife Technology, and (5) AAS in Environmental Studies. Courses are taught in state-of-the-art facilities including standalone laboratories in mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, environmental science, aquatic science, a taxidermy studio, a greenhouse, two environmentally controlled research rooms, and a 50,000-gallon cold water fish hatchery. The department maintains an impressive teaching specimen collection of fishes, herpetofauna (including one of the largest collections of live North American turtles at any college or university in the world), birds, mammals, a diversity of invertebrates, and higher plants. The department is comprised of 8 highly collaborative faculty and 6 dedicated instructional support personnel who are committed to high quality, applied, undergraduate education. Department members share the teaching philosophy that students learn best by doing; therefore, laboratories and field trips are "hands-on". The typical faculty teaching load is 12-13 contact hours per semester. A fleet of campus vans is available to transport students to field sites. The successful applicant must have a strong interest in higher education and enthusiasm for creating educational teaching environments that are innovative, inspiring, and accessible to students in the classroom and in the field. We seek an individual with diverse training in the ecological and environmental sciences to teach both introductory and upper-level courses in the Environmental Studies and Environmental Management curricula. Teaching assignments and may include courses such as Soil and Water Conservation, Entomology, and Conservation Biology, as well as opportunities to develop class(es) in the candidate's area of specialty. Department faculty are also encouraged to lead undergraduate student research. Additional desired skills include demonstrated experience in GIS techniques and an interest in developing microcredentials, online learning opportunities, and workforce development training. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Candidates should also be prepared to teach in a variety of modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid, and remote formats. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include academic advisement, committee participation, curricular activities, including career-focused microcredential curriculum development, and scholarly activities such as research, grantsmanship, scholarship, mentorship of undergraduate researchers, and professional development that supports excellence in teaching. Faculty are expected to participate in assessment and other quality improvement initiatives that benefit the college, our students, the community and the discipline.
