NJ Advance Media is seeking an intrepid environmental journalist to turn a white-hot spotlight on cancer clusters, threatened natural jewels and the burgeoning green economy in the Garden State. We are looking for an engaging storyteller and compelling writer who will develop deep sourcing and who loves peeling back the mysteries behind shadowy deeds and hefty price-tag policy initiatives. Coverage will include deep dives and analysis, audience-provoking enterprise and thoughtful takes on timely breaking news. We want to go beyond the basics of environmental and climate change coverage. We need a reporter who will find the inside story on invisible threats, future superstorms and the devastating consequences of past misdeeds. What’s threatening our health? What’s spoiling our water? And who is to blame? We want someone who lives for the challenge of embedding themselves into policy failures, environmental battles and the ugly legacy of New Jersey’s superfund sites and polluting. You’ll produce compelling investigations into a wide breadth of issues, from leaching landfills to dying lakes to endangered animals. You’ll be mining for your own story ideas, pitching and collaborating with your editors and teammates, and juggling multiple short- and long-term projects all the time. In this position, you will be part of a dynamic and inclusive team focused on local journalism for one of the country’s largest privately owned media companies.
