About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises is looking for an Environmental Quality Assurance Manager in Norfolk, VA. The position focuses on managing environmental data and ensuring all technical work stays compliant with industry regulations.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related technical field and at least 3 years in a maritime or industrial corrosion control environment, specifically supporting U.S. Navy or Coast Guard contracts. In lieu of degree additional years of experience will suffice.
  • AMPP/NACE CIP Level 1 or 2 (Required).
  • NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) (Highly Preferred).
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
  • Must be proficient in environmental data management software and Microsoft Excel for complex data modeling and reporting.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and naval installations.
  • Must have a REAL ID. (Must be obtained before start date)
  • Must be able to acquire DBIDS access to Naval Bases which comes from passing basic security clearance background check. Must have DBIDS before being put in work site.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental Reporting & Data Collection
  • Emissions Tracking: Collect and analyze data regarding Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) generated during coating operations.
  • Waste Management: Oversee the documentation and disposal of hazardous materials, including spent abrasive grit and paint waste, ensuring adherence to RCRA and state-specific guidelines.
  • Discharge Monitoring: Monitor and report on potential point-source discharges into navigable waters during dry-dock or pier-side maintenance.
  • Audit Readiness: Maintain comprehensive electronic logs for federal (EPA) and state environmental agency inspections.
  • Corrosion Control Quality Assurance
  • Technical Inspections: Perform NACE/AMPP-standard inspections of surface preparation (SP-1 through SP-10) and coating thickness (DFT).
  • Navy Standard Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 and related technical manuals (e.g., NSTM 631).
  • Failure Analysis: Investigate coating failures or premature corrosion, documenting environmental factors (humidity, dew point, surface temp) that contributed to the discrepancy.
  • Testing: Conduct chloride/salt contamination tests and profile depth measurements to ensure long-term substrate integrity.
