About The Position

This position is part of the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management - National Energy Technology Laboratory, Department of Energy. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will provide environmental management and environmental protection expertise and support to DOE programs, projects or initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Participates in the e-Verify program.
  • If a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with the Selective Service System or be exempt.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination.
  • May be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement upon entering the position (at the GS-14 level).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out complex DOE environmental protection/sustainability projects and initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of new environmental protection/sustainability concepts and ideas.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive Department wide environmental management program.
  • Manage project compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental statutes and regulations.
  • Coordinate with scientists, engineers, attorneys, and other environmental professionals in DOE and other agencies to exchange new information on environmental protection, sustainability and compliance to assure compatibility with similar activities being conducted.
  • Conduct studies of issues associated with the siting, permitting and integration of power plants, carbon capture systems, carbon dioxide pipelines, transmission lines and related facilities.
