About The Position

The Environmental Protection Specialist position within the Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Investigation (BOI) is designed for individuals with a background in operations and administration, particularly those passionate about investigative and research tasks. This role involves supporting the Chief Counsel and Director through various operational duties, conducting investigations, and collaborating with multiple agencies to ensure environmental protection compliance.

Requirements

• One year of experience as a journey-level specialist in a waste management program.
• Two years of experience in environmental protection and a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
• A master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of required experience.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough interviews to collect evidence.
• Coordinate evidence collection activities such as photography, sampling, and surveillance.
• Perform site visits and serve documents on businesses and private individuals.
• Assist departmental staff with inspections and investigative efforts.
• Coordinate investigations with agencies like the federal Environmental Protection Agency, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Game Commission, and Public Utility Commission.
• Support other investigators with search warrants and organize evidence.
