We are looking for two Environmental Project Officers to join our Waste Management and Remediation Division. The positions within the Petroleum Tank Cleanup Section provides agency assistance in project management for the investigation, evaluation, and cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous substance sites in Montana that are primarily under the jurisdiction of the Montana Underground Storage Tank Act and the Petroleum Storage Tank Cleanup Act (Acts). The sites are primarily active and inactive petroleum product storage and fueling facilities where contamination stems from above ground and underground storage tank systems including; service stations, convenience stores, bulk plants, home heating oil tanks, farms/ranches, and other facilities. The Environmental Project Officers ensure protection of Montana's environment through application and knowledge of Montana's environmental laws and regulations. The Environmental Project Officer coordinates remedial investigation and corrective action through review and approval, denial, or modification of corrective action plans (CAPs) submitted under the Acts and through oversight of CAP implementation. This position reviews data and reports to determine the need for further action or site closure. This position initiates and responds to requests for site closure. In addition, this position provides site-specific information to Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Board staff regarding approved remedial investigation, corrective action and/or site closure. This position is expected to collaborate with peers to share expertise, manage complex sites and assist in development of program technical guidance documents. The applicant should have a working knowledge of EPA and State policies related to remediation projects from discovery to long term stewardship. This position requires knowledge and experience with business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. The applicant should have a positive orientation toward customer-service combined with strong writing skills and speaking ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and controversial information. The applicant should be able to work independently on multiple projects; adapt to changing priorities; and identify specific needs for additional skills or experience and proactively seek input from peers.
