About The Position

The Project Manager position at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) involves overseeing the management of a CERCLA cleanup program for the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of a tri-party Federal Facilities Agreement (FFA) with the USEPA and NYSDEC. The role focuses on contaminant characterization, monitoring, reporting, remediation, and stakeholder communications, with a strong emphasis on producing high-quality reports and maintaining project schedules and budgets.

Requirements

  • Minimum of BS degree in an environmental, engineering or similar discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience managing environmental/groundwater cleanup projects.
  • Experience working on CERCLA/NYSDEC projects and strong working knowledge of CERCLA/NYSDEC requirements and processes.
  • Experience in work plan development, implementing field investigations, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and report writing.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies including USEPA, NYSDEC, and SCDHS.

Nice To Haves

  • Skills in presenting technical information to various stakeholders and audiences.
  • Experience interpreting and mapping groundwater data.
  • Knowledge of groundwater modeling and hydrogeologic concepts.
  • Familiarity with environmental databases, GIS or other environmental mapping software.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products for developing reports, tables, presentations, and use of SharePoint.
  • Project management training and experience including planning, estimating, schedule and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the reporting elements for GPG and meeting the schedule requirements of the FFA.
  • Overseeing the development and timely submission of GPG reports including the Annual Groundwater Status Report and CERCLA Five-Year Review.
  • Managing the LUIC program for formerly remediated areas, including routine inspections and maintaining LUIC mapping website fact sheets.
  • Communicating work status and progress to stakeholders including BNL management, DOE, and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborating with GPG Manager and team to plan, develop and execute various technical requests and initiatives.
  • Developing work plans/scopes, contract and budget management, project management, and execution.
  • Participating in technical reviews of various GPG and contracted work products.
  • Coordinating and implementing groundwater and remediation system monitoring programs.
