About The Position

Stantec is currently seeking a Project Manager , with demonstrated experience to lead environmental regulatory and project permitting efforts, supervising and mentoring staff, providing project and client management, and supporting business development opportunities. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of projects, including but not limited to public utilities, new electric transmission and rebuild projects, and renewable energy projects. The Project Manager must solve problems of significant complexity by providing original, innovative, practical, and economical solutions. Work involves planning, directing, and coordinating complex assignments/projects, modifying established guidelines, and initiating new approaches while managing multiple projects concurrently. The selected candidate will c ommunicate and collaborate with other Stantec professionals to ensure consistency in project execution and delivery while supporting and ensuring implementation of Stantec Health, Safety, Security, & Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting, including regulatory coordination and permit application development.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply environmental compliance and permitting regulations of applicable regulatory associations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and represent clients in a public setting, such as a local planning board meeting or public informational meeting.
  • Knowledge of documents related to requests for proposals, invitations for bid and tendering offers.
  • "Hands-on" experience in managing permitting applications and projects from start to finish.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting project deadlines in a cost-effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including advanced technical writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and establish positive working relationships.
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform work accurately in a detailed-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence and other written materials.
  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated, self-directed and possess the ability to make sound business decisions.
  • The ability to balance an entrepreneurial, pragmatic approach to business development and project execution is essential.
  • The position requires a focus on client needs, leadership, strategic/critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to advance both the client and Stantec.
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree in environmental science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience permitting, wetland and streams issues, stormwater permitting, technical reports, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex, individual permit applications and projects from start to finish.
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience permitting large scale energy projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities include identifying project-specific environmental regulatory requirements; coordinating with resource agency personnel; writing and reviewing technical reports; developing environmental permit applications (federal, state, and local); presenting at public meetings; and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.
  • Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing projects and budgets; building and managing project teams; coordinating with clients, subcontractors, stakeholders, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project multi-disciplinary technical work.
  • Business development responsibilities may include maintaining existing client relations and collaborating to develop and pursue new clients and opportunities.
  • Additional responsibilities may include coordinating, conducting, and/or leading field work.
