About The Position

The incumbent will perform tasks related to the review of project proposals, receipt and processing of permit applications, and management and tracking functions related to permit applications for a variety of DEC environmental programs in the Region 4 office. Specific tasks will include initial evaluations of environmental impacts of proposed actions; performing mapped-based and field-based interdisciplinary environmental and regulatory project reviews; utilizing computer programs to manage, tracking and coordinating permit processing activities; coordinating interaction with multiple government agencies, consultants, DEC program staff, and the public regarding permitting procedures; assisting in jurisdictional evaluation and project management on a broad range of proposals; making determinations regarding permit jurisdictions, preparing Lead Agency responses in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR), and other correspondence; assisting in the timely review of permit applications per the Uniform Procedures Act (UPA); preparing draft permits, assisting in emergency storm response activities; ensuring appropriate coordination of project review with all federal, state and local agencies having jurisdiction on a project; and ensuring appropriate opportunities for public comment on the proposal, as necessary. This position is located in the Region 4 office in Schenectady with project management territories located throughout the DEC Region 4 area. The Region 4 area includes Delaware, Otsego, Montgomery, Schoharie, Albany, Schenectady, Greene, Rensselaer and Columbia counties. Occasional evening meetings and travel may be required. When necessary, the incumbent must be able to drive a state vehicle to attend site visits and multiagency meetings, and to evaluate environmental concerns.
