About The Position

Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an experienced Environmental Principal to join our team. This role ensures that overall goals related to quality and performance are achieved. Responsibilities for any one particular project are limited. The goal is to delegate to senior staff and step in when and where it is most useful. Principals are the problem solvers and the final reviewer for projects. The ideal candidate presents a positive customer service attitude and understanding of ECS Core Values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other Engineering degree applicable to Environmental Consulting, Natural or Environmental Science, Geology, or other degree relevant to the practice of Environmental Consulting.
  • Minimum 12 years of related experience.
  • 16 or more years of experience can meet education requirements.
  • Licensed as at least one of the following: PE, PG, REM, CIH, CHMM, PWS, CSP, LSS, CIE, REPA, or CEM.
  • Candidates must have achieved previous designation as Principal at ECS or hold similar designation from competitor firm.

Responsibilities

  • Actively mentor junior staff and support overall development of the team.
  • Provide mentorship to Associate Principals as assigned.
  • Attend project meetings and provide solutions to technical and administrative issues as necessary.
  • Market our services. Maintain and further develop the client database.
  • Oversee project budgets and review change orders and invoices. Assist with collections efforts.
  • Training and oversight of subordinate staff members.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Oversee environmental projects. Assist junior staff with resolution of issues and training of field staff.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of proposals and change orders.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of environmental reports from junior staff.
  • Perform deliverable reviews in accordance with ECS Principal review policy.
  • Host or attend project discussions with clients, follow up on reports to determine if there are questions.
  • Assist senior staff with staffing decisions.
  • Have completed internal Phase I ESA training.
  • Must be an EP as defined by ASTM. Review Phase I ESAs in accordance with ECS Principal policy.
  • Supervise subordinate staff regarding work assignments to ensure properly trained and experienced personnel are assigned.
  • Perform Principal oversight and review of projects in accordance with ECS Principal Policy.
  • Ensure that deliverables are completed, and projects are closed out in accordance with ECS QA/QC policies and guidelines.
  • Assist with client interaction/discussion regarding findings and conclusions of reports.
  • Possesses exceptional technical writing skills and has mastered basic conventions of spelling, grammar, and professional content/tone.
  • Effectively proofreads their own written work.
  • Interact with Project Managers to ensure that project set up and implementation procedures are being completed.
  • Discuss how changes at the site could affect the project outcome or budget with the project managers and the client.
  • Communicate with junior staff to direct field work performed by drill crews, test pit crews and assist with rig access issues on Groundwater and soil investigations.
  • Develop and review site work plans including sample/boring locations, equipment needs, safety requirements and subcontractor logistics that account for client goals for the project.
  • Manage remediation system design, installation, operation and maintenance.
  • Communicate with the client any onsite conditions that may impact the scope, budget, or technology needed onsite.
  • Ensure permits are in place.
  • Manage and review the results of underground storage tank assessments.
  • Support and mentor staff in their development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
