About The Position

Job postings are removed from the RCUH Job Openings site once the recruitment process has ended.  Regular, Part-Time (47.5% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), located at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM), in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Remote work may be permissible with the appropriate approvals. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.   MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $3,166.67 - $5,000/Mon. (@47.5% FTE)   DUTIES:  Conducts research on the non-market valuation of natural resources in the state of Hawai'i. Initial focus will be on the values associated with the Na Ala Hele trails network. Leads the non-market valuation portion of the project, which entails designing and conducting both stated choice (survey) and revealed preference (e.g., campsite reservations, mobility data) methods. Responsible for non-market data procurement, quality control, and analysis. Responsible for ensuring research reproducibility, including maintaining project code on GitHub, establishing a data repository, and designing a project website. Collaborates with others, e.g., liaising with stakeholder partners, coordinating with the ecosystem risk assessment team, and overseeing the analytical work of a graduate student. Leads writing of academic journal articles, and supports team members on their manuscripts. Maintains good communication with PIs and team. Participates in other lab projects related to ecosystem-based adaptation, natural capital accounting, and ecosystem service valuation. Collaborates on data provision and management. Collaborates with and mentors graduate and undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: PhD from an accredited college or university in Environmental Economics, or related field with specialization in non-market valuation. (PhD candidates may apply but must submit evidence of PhD completion upon hire).
  • EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience in conducting non-market valuation analysis.
  • KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of ecosystem service modeling and valuation methods.
  • ABILITIES & SKILLS: Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Demonstrated skills in coding and use of spatial data. Demonstrated ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and to work independently with a high level of self-initiative.
  • Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable.
  • Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within 30 days from date of hire, and re-certify annually. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
