About The Position

The Associate Environmental Planner at Valley Water will play a crucial role in supporting the development and execution of plans and projects related to water supply, flood protection, and watershed stewardship. This position involves collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, particularly the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The planner will guide project teams through environmental impact assessments, permitting processes, and compliance monitoring, contributing to meaningful community projects that protect natural environments in Santa Clara County.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience as an environmental planner.
  • Experience evaluating the impact of public works or capital projects on the community and environment.
  • Preparation of CEQA/NEPA documents and regulatory permit negotiation experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in air quality, biology, cultural resources, noise, transportation/traffic, or closely related fields.
  • Professional certification in a relevant field, such as AICP Certified Environmental Planner.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, biologists, and consultants to develop project elements and evaluate potential environmental impacts.
  • Provide guidance on CEQA and NEPA documentation requirements.
  • Oversee the CEQA process, including exemptions, Negative Declarations, and Environmental Impact Reports.
  • Support natural resource agency permitting and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison with internal staff and external parties regarding environmental aspects of projects.
  • Assist in consultant management to ensure high-quality contract work products.
  • Support environmental compliance monitoring of project activities.
