About The Position

Actively promotes health, safety and environmental awareness and applies technical knowledge in the design, implementation and management of health, safety and environmental engineering controls within the site(s). Provides support cross-functionally to ensure compliance with Cummins internal requirements, applicable health, safety and environmental regulations and industry standards. This is an Environmental Manufacturing Develop Program (MDP) position involving engagement in a two-year MDP program including four six-month rotations focused on Environmental management in Facilities & Operations. The environmental MDP will go through four rotations: Global support in the ECOE (Environmental Center of Excellence), Operations, 6S, Elective.

Requirements

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in health, safety, environment, engineering or related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of environmental topics such as air, water, waste, energy, or sustainability (through coursework, internships, or projects).
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and compliance concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with data and thrive in a dynamic, rotational environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred.
  • Internship or academic exposure to manufacturing, environmental compliance, site remediation, or sustainability initiatives.
  • Interest in continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and/or data analytics or artificial intelligence applied to environmental or operational topics.

Responsibilities

  • Actively demonstrates safety awareness and promotes a positive health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Ensures employees are consulted and given the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures.
  • Works cross-functionally, providing technical expertise, to improve hazard prevention and rick control measures, non-conformities, corrective and preventive actions, driving continual improvement within the site(s).
  • Contributes to daily health, safety and environmental operations within the site(s) providing support to solve technical issues.
  • Leads hazard identification, environmental aspect identification and risk assessment programs to identify risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety and environmental compliance obligations.
  • Meets targets and objectives for the design, implementation and maintenance of complex hazard prevention and control systems to reduce or eliminate potential risk.
  • Develops and leads training, skills development and internal communications related to hazard prevention and control for employees within the site(s).
  • Develops and maintains technical content ensuring it is up to date, controlled and available while adhering to data privacy regulations.
  • Evaluates site health, safety and environmental data, legal compliance findings, and internal and external audit results to develop improvement plan using a risk-based, data driven approach.
  • Contributes to site(s) Health, Safety, Environmental Management Systems review annually in conformance with Cummins internal requirements.
  • Participates in site audit preparation and formal audit processes.
  • Coaches cross-functional teams based on stakeholder feedback, and observations.
  • Actively seeks opportunities for self-development through professional health, safety and environmental organizations, as a champion of emerging trends.
  • Participate in a structured 2-year rotational program across Environmental Center of Excellence, Manufacturing Operations, and Six Sigma to build broad environmental expertise.
  • Contribute to impactful environmental projects focused on compliance, sustainability, and operational improvement (e.g., energy, waste, emissions, water).
  • Analyze environmental data and support identification of improvement opportunities across sites and functions.
