About The Position

The Environmental Manager role ensures that the VLS business units are compliant with environmental regulations, as well as supporting growth efforts to further expand the company’s service offerings. This position can be based at any existing VLS Environmental Solutions office and will report to the Senior Director of Environmental Compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry, Bioenvironmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other engineering/science discipline
  • Six to eight years’ experience in the EHS field, with a significant portion at the regional or corporate level in a governance role
  • Must have extensive experience with California regulations and requirements.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills with both direct reports and other stakeholders
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol screen, pre-employment physical examination, and background check upon receiving an offer of employment
  • Maintain a driving history satisfactory with VLS Recovery Services standards, and its insurer
  • Must be able to complete tasks both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • High level of integrity and professionalism required
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations;
  • Technical experience in evaluating multi-media environmental regulations and developing company-specific procedures and guidelines that meet the intent of those regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in using MS Office Software features to effectively execute work tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the entire region on Environmental compliance as well as approve profiles into at least the Quartzsite facility.
  • Support the growth and expansion of the company through select research, contact with regulatory agencies and through permitting and permit compliance.
  • Assure that all locations remain in compliance with all permits, licenses, registrations, rules, regulations, etc.
  • Anticipate and proactively eliminate potential compliance concerns.
  • Provide a strong, positive field presence that represents a visible example of our EHS culture
  • Lead the development of an integrated environmental management program
  • Develop and maintain necessary environmental programs to effectively manage corporate risk from the company’s operations and achieve the company’s EHS goals
  • Conduct routine assessments/audits of EHS program elements at all locations
  • Develop and/or maintain assigned sections of the EHS Manual
  • Maintain proper accounting of all EHS related expenses
  • Support and contribute to the identification of capital investment needs
  • Support and/or lead the incident investigation process for assigned incidents
  • Ensure that all visits by regulatory authorities, customers, insurance underwriters, etc. are properly coordinated and supported by members of the corporate or local EHS team
  • Travel to company locations and vendor partner facilities (domestic and international) as necessary (up to 50%) to accomplish these responsibilities
