About The Position

Freese and Nichols (FNI) seeking an experienced Environmental Manager in Jacksonville or Tampa, FL . As the Environmental Manager, you will lead and grow our Environmental Practice within the Florida market. You will work across our Florida location which are focused on providing A-E services to public sector clients including municipalities, counties, water management districts, state agencies, and federal agencies. You will be supported by environmental professionals in offices outside of Florida. Your goals include supporting current projects where environmental expertise is required and identifying new opportunities, positioning, leading SOQ and proposal efforts to win, and then execute new projects in the environmental space. The ultimate goal is to build a portfolio of environmental projects/contracts and develop a team of staff to support our A-E public sector clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, geology, or related discipline
  • 10+ years’ professional experience with majority of time spent leading teams and projects
  • Experience with technical and professional writing, preparation of fee proposals for professional services, and the ability to conduct presentations at public and client meetings
  • Working knowledge of FDEP and EPA rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in both the field and in the office

Nice To Haves

  • Deep understanding of the Florida environmental market
  • Section 404 Clean Water Act Permitting and supporting services, endangered and threatened species management, environmental impact assessment and preparation of documentation required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other ecological services in inland and coastal environments
  • Environmental compliance, environmental site assessments and remediation, multi-media permitting, and pollution prevention.
  • Working knowledge and relationships with federal and state regulatory agency staff operating in Florida including agencies such as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), various Florida Water Management Districts (WMDs) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers districts
  • Management experience and the ability to train and mentor junior and mid-level environmental staff

Responsibilities

  • Working with operational and practice leadership to develop and implement a business plan for the establishment and growth of FNI’s environmental business within the Florida market.
  • Setting time-bound goals and measures of success, including but not limited to number of new environmental contracts, new client contacts, client marketing visits, conference presentations, identified sales funnel opportunities, annual bookings, months of backlog, and annual revenue.
  • Tracking progress towards goals and present to leadership.
  • Performing in a lead role for marketing the firm’s environmental capabilities to existing and prospective clients.
  • Preparing and reviewing the technical elements of proposals including scope, implementation approach, and manpower (level of effort) projections.
  • Negotiating contracts with clients and proactively identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Supervising assigned project personnel (environmental scientists, engineers, planners, technicians, and support staff), either directly or indirectly, while exemplifying FNI’s LEADS values
  • Delivering quality projects within established budgets and time schedules that meet the client’s needs
  • Planning, scheduling, and directing staff members assigned to studies and investigations.
  • Defining tasks to be accomplished independently by others.
  • Providing general supervision, direction, and final review.
  • Providing mentoring, guidance and technical advice to those assigned to the project or direct reports.
  • Evaluating performance, implement corrective actions, and provide professional staff development.
  • Serving as technical advisor to project scientists, engineers, and planners regarding project problems.
  • Providing special expertise and experience where necessary.
  • Researching and/or investigating complex or unique environmental science problems to advance the expertise within the firm
  • Advising the Group/Team Manager of the skills, techniques, and aids available to expand departmental capabilities
  • Supporting recruiting efforts and participating in resume review and interviews for perspective staff
  • May serve as Project Manager for large and/or technically complex projects
  • Meeting yearly goals assigned to contribute to FNI’s Key Focus Indicators (KFIs)
