About The Position

As Environmental Manager, you’ll lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across our Western Region operations. Your responsibilities will include: Developing innovative, cost-effective solutions for environmental, safety, and compliance issues at landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations. Collaborating with finance, legal, operations, maintenance, and safety teams to implement environmental programs. Managing audits, inspections, monitoring, recordkeeping, and training to ensure compliance and efficiency. Preparing data analyses, reports, and cost estimates for regional leadership. Conducting on-site audits and technical visits, including exposure to environmental elements such as chemicals, odors, and weather extremes. Reviewing design plans, engineering proposals, and cost estimates for environmental projects. Representing Waste Connections in regulatory interactions, permit negotiations, and technical conferences. Mentoring local leadership and junior technical staff.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: 10+ years in a highly regulated industry; waste services experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental and safety regulations.
  • Project management experience and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Skills: Expertise in stormwater and wastewater treatment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Other: Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Comfortable working in field environments and engaging with regulators and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer registration preferred but not required.
