This is a Selected Exempt Service (SES) Environmental Manager position working for the Lee County Health Department. This position manages a team of Environmental Health and Engineering Professionals performing a range of duties related to Florida Department of Health’s clean water programs. These programs include running the NELAC certified FDOH Lab, collection and assessment of water samples, healthy beaches program, limited use well permitting and assessment, SUPER Act Well Surveillance, harmful algae blooms, and public swimming pools. This position is responsible for the oversite of data analysis and entry, review of engineering applications and permit issuance, inspections of pool and limited use wells, confirmation of public notification, sample collection, and enforcement of regulations. A working knowledge of these programs and all related rules and regulations including Florida Administrative Codes (FAC) 20.43, 62-550, 64E-8, 40E, 64E-15, and 64E-9 Chapters 381 & 154 Florida Statutes, which are necessary to perform the required duties. This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
