About The Position

The Environmental Laboratory Lead Chemist serves as a senior or principal environmental consultant within the Laboratory Services Team at WEC Energy Group. This role is crucial for ensuring environmental compliance and providing analytical chemistry support to internal utility customers. The Lead Chemist is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring safety, and training laboratory technicians in analytical methods. The position requires collaboration with various departments to meet the analytical needs of the organization while maintaining high standards of quality and legal defensibility.

Requirements

• Bachelors' Degree in Physical Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline.
• 5-10 years of related experience.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System.
• Strong communication and analytical skills, organizational skills, leadership qualities, and overall knowledge of state and federal regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Labworks
• Knowledge of the utility industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the analytical chemistry lab needs of WEC Energy Group internal clients are met in terms of required quality, legal defensibility, timeliness, and cost effectiveness.
• Coordinate activities to maintain state laboratory certification.
• Provide work direction, training, and mentoring to team members.
• Analyze and resolve complex problems, utilizing a structured approach to expedite problem resolution.
• Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with clients, customers, and key stakeholders.
• Balance client requests with available resources and operational directives of the team.
• Utilize planning, scheduling, and resource management expertise to effectively manage projected workload.
