About The Position

Introduction to and the performance of bacteriological and chemical analyses of samples submitted to the River Authority’s Regional Environmental Laboratory in compliance with regulatory, project, and accreditation requirements; parameters primarily limited to wet chemistry and microbiology.   Safety is #1 at the River Authority: We expect every employee: to 1) Strictly follow safety policies, rules, and safe work methods. 2) Promptly correct or report safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Requirements

  • Currently or recently enrolled in an accredited college or university with completed coursework in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or other relevant disciplines and six (6) months of progressively responsible experience conducting field or environmental laboratory work (lab or field work associated with coursework is acceptable); or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Knowledge of: Laboratory best practices, safety protocols, and quality control measures
  • Knowledge of: Environmental sample handling, analysis hold time, and preservation requirements
  • Knowledge of: Chemical properties
  • Knowledge of: Crystal Reports, databases, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of: Laboratory Information Management System
  • Skills and Abilities: Maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents
  • Skills and Abilities: Communicating orally and in writing
  • Skills and Abilities: Must be able to function in a principle-based organization that has a culture built on character and SARA Core Values of Stewardship, Integrity, and Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts all assigned analyses in accordance with the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference Institute (TNI) standards as outlined in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and reference methods.
  • Follows Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols and guidelines described in the Regional Laboratory Quality Assurance Manual, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and other applicable regulatory and project specific resources.
  • Documents all work on bench sheets and logbooks to ensure complete traceability of all analytical batches, chemical and standards purchased or prepared, maintenance performed, along with instrument and equipment calibrations.
  • Utilizes Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to create analytical batches, report results, generate reports, receive and log-in samples, print labels and make minor modifications.
  • Provides front desk support as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
