About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Drinking Water Program Manager, this position is responsible for the monthly collection and testing of culinary drinking water samples from public water systems located in Cache, Rich, and Box Elder Counties. Sampling is conducted according to DEQ/EPA-approved site plans, with sampling locations rotated monthly in compliance with the established schedule. Duties also include accurately completing digital forms and log sheets to document sampling activities. This is a part-time position, typically scheduled for around 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school or GED.
  • Be skilled in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet, and email use
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and those contacted during the course of the work day
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and information
  • Understand and follow Bear River Health Department policies and procedures
  • Be able to pass a full background check and drug screening
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah Driver License at the time of employment
  • Be comfortable driving long distances and in adverse weather conditions
  • Be able to provide your own transportation to the Logan office
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to perform strenuous activities requiring flexibility and stamina, and overall general good health
  • Reliable under minimal supervision
  • Have a flexible schedule and be available for scheduled work in the evenings and/or weekends and holidays as the job requires

Responsibilities

  • Collect culinary drinking water samples from public water systems in Cache, Rich and Box Elder counties
  • Collect swimming pool and spa samples from public pools and spas in Cache, Rich, and Box Elder counties
  • Test pool chemistry prior to collecting pool and spa samples
  • Test and read water samples in the Bear River Health Department lab in Logan, Utah
  • Send sample results via email at the end of each business day
  • Respond to public health emergencies as required
