About The Position
The Environmental Health Specialist plays a crucial role in protecting public health by ensuring compliance with state sanitary codes in various settings. This dynamic position offers a blend of fieldwork, community interaction, and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive on-site inspections of food service establishments, evaluating food handling practices, temperature control, equipment sanitation, employee hygiene, and overall facility cleanliness. The position also involves inspecting tourist accommodations, public and private swimming pools, and other facilities as needed. Additionally, the specialist will issue citations for violations, work with business owners to develop corrective action plans, and respond to public complaints regarding health hazards. Community education is also a key component, with responsibilities including developing and delivering food handler training courses and providing educational materials on environmental health topics.
