We currently have an opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our team located in Jacksonville, IL. Responsibilities Your Role: The EHS Specialist position will perform as an effective facilitator to influence development of a proactive approach to health and environmental issues. The principal challenges include assuring that sound Environmental and Health Management systems are in place; anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling health hazards; providing input into problem-solving and implementation relative to those hazards; and monitoring and continually improving the performance of Health Management Systems. You will have the opportunity to Make Great Things Happen! Provide support in the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and programs. Maintain updated OSHA and EPA required written programs and develop/conduct training as necessary under the direction of the EHS Manager. Assist in injury, accident, and fire investigation reporting. File Worker’s Compensation claims and maintain records. Accompany employees on initial physician visits for work related injuries. Update plant safety and environmental metrics. Assist in implementing and managing the plants BBS Program. Manage safety incentive programs. Coordinate Industrial Hygiene, hearing, and respirator fit testing and First Aid, CPR, and AED training. Maintain OSHA and EPA required records. Develop a daily toolbox talk database. Maintain/update the plant’s Safety Data Sheet database and ensure compliance with the Hazard Communication Standard/GHS. Participate on the plant Safety Committee. Develop JSAs and update SOPs for plant processes. Share on-call duties for night and weekend incidents. Conduct safety and environmental related audits. Perform other tasks as directed by the EHS Manager; serve as second in command to EHS Manager within department. Supports the Plants’ document control program to Insure procedures are in alignment with BRC and SQP procedures and guidelines. In locations where applicable, responsible for complying with the SQF and GMP practices and programs to ensure safe food packaging product and to report food safety problems to those with authority to act. Manage Environmental Programs and overall compliance with Federal and State regulatory agencies. Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering or technical discipline or related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills.
  • Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
  • Well-developed leadership and motivational skills with proven ability to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
  • Ability to travel (5%).
  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
