About The Position

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist I is responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment within an electric vehicle (EV) battery cell manufacturing facility. This role focuses on safety program implementation, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance while fostering a safety-first culture. The EHS Specialist spends significant time on the production floor identifying hazards and promoting best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field((Mechanical, Electrical & Chemical)
  • 1-3 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in manufacturing or automotive environments
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and safety standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train and influence others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with workplace safety practices such as behavior-based safety, ergonomics, and risk assessments
  • Hands-on, safety-focused mindset with a proactive approach to hazard prevention
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including support across multiple shifts
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Adhere to all safety and PPE requirements at all times
  • Participate in and complete all required training programs
  • Maintain worksite cleanliness in line with 5S3R standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
  • Reliable, on-site attendance is mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement EHS policies and programs to meet OSHA, and company-specific safety standards
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and industrial hygiene monitoring to identify and mitigate workplace risks
  • Investigate workplace incidents and injuries, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Deliver training sessions for employees and leadership on hazard identification, accident prevention, and compliance programs
  • Maintain documentation and records for EHS programs, including regulatory submissions and compliance reporting
  • Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory events.
  • Oversee contractor safety compliance through prequalification processes, safe work permits, and daily walkthroughs
  • Collaborate with leadership to set safety goals and track progress using reports and communication materials
  • Support production teams by spending at least 50% of the workday on the floor to ensure safety and efficiency are maintained
  • Participate in community safety groups and committees, representing the company in safety-related initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
