About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety Manager at Tufts Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, ensuring compliance with various regulations, and managing staff and vendor operations related to environmental safety. This role involves setting goals for team members, developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and leading initiatives to improve safety and environmental practices within the hospital.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Environmental Health and Safety staff and vendor site service technicians for regulated medical waste and chemical waste operations.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, EPA, and state and local regulations regarding environment of care and safety.
  • Organize and lead the Environment of Care program to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain databases for compliance with TJC and CMS regulations.
  • Oversee daily operations of hazardous waste collection and disposal, including medical and chemical waste management.
  • Develop, revise, implement, and evaluate organization-wide plans and policies for the EH&S Department.
  • Manage environmental health and safety programs related to maintenance and construction activities.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness policies and respond to emergency events.
  • Represent the department on various committees such as Emergency Management and Infection Control Committee.
  • Provide departmental safety in-services as requested by management.
  • Chair the Hospital Safety Committee.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external regulators to ensure satisfactory safety outcomes.
